Happyyy biiiiirthdaaaayyyy to youuuuu!!! Tanti auuuguuuriiii a teeee!!!

This is my Pantone dessert table created for my graphic designer husband for his birthday. He LOOOVED IT! Thank God because I was literally fainting after having baked and prepared all these sweets!

I knew recently he was getting obsessed with the yellow colour so I thought to use it for this dessert table combined with the Pantone theme. He was happy to create food cards and food wrappers which I think gave a personal touch to the table. He made the personalised giant poster which is the perfect backdrop for this table!

I prepared different types of sweets to give variety to the table and although I swore not to make cakepops again ( I end up eating too much chocolate while making them and it’s really hard to shape them round!),  they look so good on a dessert table! These were vanilla cakepops covered with vanilla chocolate.

I then made orange pannacotta.

I filled the juice dispenser with Pinapple juice and decorated some milk bottles with a customized Pantone wrapper

Vanilla cupcakes decorated with Swiss meringue buttercream

Marshmallow dipped in chocolate

I loved the idea to cover some chocolate bars with a customized wrapper

I made these vanilla cookies in advance and covered with royal icing. They looked great at the beginning but unfortunately they turned out a bit bumpy after a day 🙁

Two tiers vanilla madeira cake filled with custard

Vanilla sponge filled with jam and decorated with syrup peaches and swiss meringue buttercream

Buon compleanno Amore!

Having children in your 30s – 10 reasons why you should

family, Holiday, parenting, travelling Comments Off on Having children in your 30s – 10 reasons why you should

I just read that nearly half of the babies born in the Uk are to moms over 30. I am one of those mums and although I’ve always wanted to have kids quite early in life, sometimes things don’t work out the way you expected. With the time I realised that probably there were good reasons for that so after a quick thinking I came out with my 10 facts why you should trust that having babies in  your 30s is a good idea!

After 30:

  • you kind of  know better what you want from life and how to handle things (or at least you know what you don’t want!)
  • hopefully you have built a strong/secure relashionship with your partner
  • you have obtained a degree (gosh this pic looks like 1960’s – I promise I am not that old!)

  • you have achieved a good (decent!) career so you are financially more stable
  • you have already done crazy things (like holding this snake!) so now you can concentrate on your family (and do crazy things all together!)

  • you have had the chance to visit/lived in different countries ( our trip to Bali)
  • you have more patience
  • you have more experience
  • you are less selfish and willing to give more and take less (sharing bananas with this monkey for example)

  • you know what really matters and realised by now what’s important for you
  • you have the capacity and maturity to patiently raise your children (if you are not sleep deprived)

Some days like today though, after having spent two nights in and out my bed trying to sooth a teething/grumpy/fussy baby,  I wish I was 20 again and had the energy to bounce back like I used to do…

Never mind.

Just have babies, regardless of your age… they are the most wonderful thing you can EVER experience!

My Sweet Valentine dessert table

Daily photo, Dessert table, family, Parties Comments Off on My Sweet Valentine dessert table

My husband and I have been together for 8 years and we have NEVER celebrated Valentine’s day. This year, inspired by some amazing pictures I found on Pinterest (yes again Pinterest!) I wanted to create a dessert table for Valentine’s day to inspire people who do celebrate it! The same dessert table could be created for your loved ones birthday too so no need to wait for Valentine’s day!

For the first time I attempted to make a ruffle cake using Swiss Meringue Buttercream which I love! Swiss meringue buttercream has a silk consistency, its texture is light and the taste is just amazing! You really need to give it a go. I have to admit, it’s not the easiest buttercream to make but I’m glad I found the perfect recipe plus some tips and trick to prepare it.

The cake itself is a simple vanilla sponge cut in two with a layer or swiss meringue buttercream in the middle.

I then made some square and round vanilla cookies filled with strawberry jam. To make the jam look less lumpy I first heated it with some water to get a smooth consistency. Please before filling the cookies, make sure you let the jam cool otherwise your biscuit will go all soggy.

I liked the idea to have a second cake on the side. This is a vanilla sponge filled with a layer of creme patissiere and rasperries coulis covered in vanilla fondant. The heart on the top is made out of red vanilla fondant.

As soon as I saw this chalk board on the shop shelf I fell in love with it!! I looked like the perfect background for my dessert table. Luckily I have a creative husband so I asked him to write the message on the board. I think it looks fab!

I’d like to explain the messy ruffles on the top of the cake (promise it’s not an excuse). Very rarely I’ve got free time to do things without my kids. On Sunday when I decided to create this ruffle cake I asked my husband to take both my kids away playing in another room as I had to concentrate on the ruffles. I did the sides well then when I was approching the ruffles on the top my daughter came into the kitchen…

“Mummy, what you doing?”

“Making a cake…”

“Oh  mummy it’s lovely! Why are you making a cake?”

“For my dessert table and then we can eat it all together”

“Why are you covering the top… ?!? Why are you using the red colour…?!? Why are your hands all red…??!!? Why…. (endless questions) ”

For every “why” my hand was taking speed so that’s why the ruffles look a bit rough!

I found these lovely free printables on the Thetomkatstudio website. I just adore their work and these simples Valentine’s cards gave a lovely touch to my desser table.

For this Valentine’s table I’m using again (yeah I know but I love them!) my milk bottles decorated with some heart straws and silk ribbon.

These Vanilla cupcakes are covered with cream cheese buttercrem and red chocolate hearts. I made the chocolate hearts by melting some red candy melt chocolate then I filled a mini piping bag made out of parchment paper and tried to pipe little heart shapes. They don’t look perfect and I like that.

Red tulips… love this flower.

Little vanilla heart cookies and small meringues.

When I had finished to take pictures and cleared the dessert table, I put all cookies and bits and pieces on this wooden board and made a picture of it, just because.. I loved it so much that despite not being part of the table I wanted to add it to this post.

You rock, Mint rocks!

I was struggling to find the perfect drink to fill the champagne flutes. I knew I wanted something sparkling but the colour was never right. To cut a long story short, I ended up buying some Pink Lucozade and adding  few drops of red food colouring lol!  In need of energy, this morning when I woke up I gulped the drink down… wondering if someone saw me drinking from a champagne flute at 7 o’clock in the morning!

Please note the glass cloche with a heart on the top, isn’t it cute?

Sweet Valentine’s day everyone!

I would marry you…

Tonight Bee and I were watching the Grammy Awards together. We both love looking at the dresses and, well not sure I can describe this other than ” bitch” about all VIPs on the red carpet! (yeah I know she’s starting at an early age!)

“Mummy look at that woman! (Cyndi Lauper) She is not niiiiceeee… she looks .. mhh a bit like a witch!”

Well she’s got a point there!

Then we were admiring the expensive jewellery… and she asked ” Mummy who gave you the rings you are wearing?”

“Daddy gave them to me.. he gave me this one with the diamond when he asked me to marry me and this one when we got married”

“Awww how lovely mommy” ” I want to get married too”

“Sure Beatrice, when you will find a nice guy then you can marry him”

“Ohh welll… I don’t want to find a nice guy.. I like you mummy and I like daddy too.. so I can marry you two! “

“Well you cannot really marry mummy and daddy.. I married daddy and you can only marry one person”

“Why can you only marry one person mummy?”

Good question..

“Well because you have to give all your love to the right one, the one and only…(bla bla)… I’m sure that you will find a lovely boy and you will marry him”

“Aww ok… and will he give me a ring?”

“God YES! Ehm I mean, of course! Just make sure he does that…ok?!”

“Ok Mummy!”

“Mummy?”

“Yes Beatrice?”

“I like you mummy.. I’d marry you…”

*little tear in my eye* *aaawwwww face*
