I thought I still have a few months to go before the first climb. Unfortunately I was wrong… It seems like lowering the bed and removing the cot bumper where Beatrice used to step on to push herself out of her bed, didn’t really help much.
The first time we discovered that Beatrice learned to climb out her bed ,was a few weeks ago after we put her to bed at 8 o’clock usual time. After she finished drinking her milk, she was suspiciously quiet (usually before falling asleep she talks or sings an “Englistalian” version of Twinkle Twinkle ) but this time no noise, no talking…so after 10 minutes we went up to check on her only to find her sitting on the changing table! She looked like if she was actually wondering how to reach an even higher place… don’t blame her as probably she just wanted to have a different perspective than the one she usually gets from the enclosure of her cot bed. As soon as she saw us she lit her face with a big smile, bless her… she looked so proud of herself and we looked stunned.
We soon realized that from that moment onwards we should have expected to see her trying to escape from her cosy den more often. And in fact this has been happening almost every night since!
Only one night she did not quite reach “her destination” and tiredness won over her attempt to escape…
I believe she sees this as a game as she knows that mommy and daddy run quite quickly when they hear her little voice (why do I say little? – she has actually got the full Italian sound power in her voice!) calling every single member of our family from the top of the changing table:
“papaaaa”
“mammmmaa”
“nonnaaaa”
“ziiiaaaa”
Sometimes she even remembers my mum’s dog name
“Biaaaaa”
And she goes on for ages.
She is so keen to get attentions that recently she even tried a different tactic…
“caccaaaaaaaaaa”
or when she’s really desperate she goes:
“caccaaaaaaaa pipiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii” (do I need to translate this !??!)
She just pretends that her nappy is full and that she des-pe-ra-tely needs to get changed. The first 2/3 times of course we believed her so rather than let her falling asleep with a dirty nappy we went up to the room, to find what? Beatrice version of “puss in boots” begging eyes with her arms stretched towards you
“bracciooo… bracciooo…” (pick me up…pick me up )
How can you resist…*pure love*
